The name may still be the same, but don’t be fooled: Android 4.2 packs a bunch of new treats, and it isn’t just about performance enhancements.
First up, there’s Photo Sphere. Yep, that sick 360-degree photo-capturing tool is coming to all Android 4.2 devices.
Next, we have Gesture Typing. This is basically Google’s version of Swype. Just slide from one letter to another, lift, and presto! There’s your word.
For those of you who love to display your photos as a screensaver, you’ll love Daydream. This is actually already available on some ‘droids like the ones from HTC, but now, this will come standard on Android 4.2.
Speaking of standard, Android 4.2 now also comes with built-in wireless TV streaming. Just hook up a wireless display adapter to your HDMI TV and you can begin to mirror and enjoy your Android 4.2-powered device on the big screen.
Android tablet users, meanwhile, can enjoy personalized settings with the addition of multi-user support.
Definitely great news for Nexus users!
Possibly not so good news for the rest of us, since not all of these are guaranteed headed our way. It’s all in the hands of the phone makers now, but at least we now know what to expect (or what we’ll be missing) once Android 4.2 begins rolling out for our Android handsets.
