There is just no stopping the Angry Birds train. From stuffed dolls to T-Shirts to a myriad of counterfeit paraphernalia, Angry Birds is literally everywhere! It was only a matter of time before someone came up with Angry Birds themed audio products. Lo and behold, here’s a trio of Angry Birds speakers from Gear4.
First of, I have to give Gear4 mad props for the packaging, this is one extremely nice looking box. The design mimics the breakable crates found in the Angry Birds game. Lifting the box to my review desk, I couldn’t help but notice that the whole package carries substantial weight. Looking at the product itself, I can’t help be impressed. Thick plastic casing, bright colors and molded to look perfectly like the Red Bird, I immediately took a liking to it. This is no cheap, cash-in product folks. The Angry Birds speakers looks to be a high quality product. Construction is solid and seems pretty durable.

Inside the box: Angry Bird Speaker, 3.5mm earphone jack cable, phone/tablet stand and AC adapter with 4 types of plugs
Setting up the product for use took only a couple of minutes. After having been spoiled listening to high end speakers, I wasn’t expecting much from these Angry Birds Speakers. But after a couple of hours listening to a range of rock, pop and jazz tunes, I came to the realization that these speakers doesn’t sound half bad. The twin tweeters and single sub woofer of the Angry Birds speaker produced sounds that’s quite full and solid. There are some noticeable sound distortions when the volume is cranked up near maximum, but adjusting the bass level higher was enough to cover up any sound abnormalities. Make no mistakes, there are some speakers in this price range that sounds better. However, Gear4’s Angry Birds speaker is no slouch. Non audiophiles will definitely be satisfied with the sound quality of this squawking boom box.
The Angry Birds speaker comes in 3 designs which is categorized into 2 types. The one sent to us is the Red Bird; it comes with a phone/tablet stand with the music being piped through a 3.5mm earphone jack cable. The Helmet Pig and Black Bird design also can be used with a 3.5mm earphone jack cable but has the advantage of having an iPod dock on top and a remote control.
Fans of Angry Birds will find a lot to like about Gear4’s offerings. These speakers are not only physically well-made, they sound good as well. Too bad Gear4 didn’t go the extra mile and add Bluetooth wireless music streaming and a built-in battery into these babies.
