Our pals at D-Link have just informed us that their entry level Wireless AC Dual Band Mini USB Adapter (what a mouthful) has just been launched in the Philippines.
The DWA-171 delivers wireless 802.11ac technology to desktop or notebook computers. Its integrated Dual Band tech allows users to select between 2.4GHz (up to 150Mbps) or 5GHz (up to 433Mbps) speeds (keep in mind, though, that actual data throughput can differ based on environmental and network factors). And in case you’re wondering what 802.11ac is, it’s a new networking standard that produces high-throughput 5GHz-band wireless speeds.
Thanks to its Dual Band technology, the DWA-171 can provide interference-free bandwidth that can help its users get more done more efficiently. For instance, a user can elect to check email and surf the ‘net on the 2.4GHz band and can use the 5GHz band for tasks such as Skype calls, HD movie streaming and gaming. The DWA-171 also allows easy WPS setup through the push of a button to help users quickly and easily put up a fast and secure home network.
In case you’ve just invested in any wireless products and may be loath to part with them, not to worry; the DWA-171 is backward-compatible with all current wireless N products and thus requires neither software updates nor adapters to work with them.
Interested? You’ll have to cool your heels for a bit, as the DWA-171 won’t hit local shores until the third quarter of this year. No word yet regarding price yet, either. We’ll keep you posted.
