While the competition tries to catch up, the App Store continues to pile on one milestone after another, the latest being their 25th billion app download, which they recorded over the weekend.
25 billion app downloads in less than 5 years; man, that’s quite a feat, made even more remarkable given how limited the devices that have access the App Store are. Sure, there are more nowadays compared to back in the day when it used to only be the iPhone and iPod touch, but it still pales in comparison to Android.
Android clearly is dominating the smartphone phone scene, but despite this fact, Android Market app downloads is still a distant second from the numbers the iTunes App Store are raking in.
I guess being the first in the world played a crucial role, but more importantly, I think its Apple’s decision to restrict app downloads to the App Store only that’s really the secret to its success.
Haters hate Apple for this iron-fist rule, but on the upside, it did serve a noble purpose – keeping the App Store free from malware.
Kudos, Apple, for the new achievement.
Here’s looking forward to more apps in the future, and hoping – fingers and toes crossed on this one – you’d ease off on the rejection button just a litte bit so we’d enjoy Cydia-quality apps from the App Store soon.
