BoostCase Hybrid Battery for iPhone 5 review

The iPhone 5 runs on magic. It can almost do anything; schedule you an appointment, order food for you, fetch the latest news, you name it! It’s one hell of a gadget and it’s the closest thing us mere mortals can get to having super powers. Too bad though it has sucky battery life and can only last half a day during heavy use. Thankfully, there are battery cases available for it and the BoostCase Hybrid happens to be the best.

One thing that makes the iPhone 5 such a great device is its inherent thinnest and sleekness. It’s highly unlikely that you will find a sexier smartphone. But being as thin as the iPhone 5 means that some compromises were made and having a notoriously short battery life was obviously one of them. The BoostCase Hybrid Battery is an iPhone accessory that I always carry around with me. Being a heavy smartphone user (I’m always online via 3G/LTE), my iPhone 5 barely lasts a whole day. Hence, a convenient, portable charging method was an integral part of my daily gear.

Made of a two-piece design, the BoostCase Hybrid Battery is comprised of an iPhone 5 case and a slide-on battery. The case itself (called the SnapCase) is thin yet offers ample protection against daily wear-and-tear. The SnapCase itself sports a modular design where various accessories like a wallet and finger strap can easily be attached and piggybacked on the SnapCase. The slide-on battery makes use of that modular concept and can be easily slapped on the SnapCase when charging is needed. It’s a simple yet effective design concept; when in need of a charge, simply attach the battery. Once charging is done, remove the battery. Unlike battery cases from Mophie, the BoostCase Hybrid Battery doesn’t force the user to carry the full weight of the battery on their iPhone.

The sliding attachment mechanism of the BoostCase system is quite secure and dependable. The battery fits snugly on the SnapCase and it doesn’t seem to loosen up, even though I’ve been using it on a daily basis for months now. The BoostCase Hybrid Battery is an official licensed “Made for iPhone” accessory which means that it sports an original Lightning plug that has passed Apple’s quality check. The Hybrid Battery is charged via a micro USB port and when it is attached to the iPhone, the micro USB port can also be used to sync the iPhone 5 with iTunes.

Bottomline:

The BoostCase Battery Hybrid is definitely one of the must-have accessories for any iPhone user. It’s molded specifically for the iPhone 5 and it is the most convenient iPhone 5 charging method currently available. It may be a bit more expensive that a universal charging bank, but the convenience of not having to bother with a charging USB cable and lugging around a big brick makes the BoostCase Battery Hybrid truly worth it. BoostCase Hybrid Battery for the iPhone 5 comes in 2 sizes, a 2,200 mAh capacity and the smaller, slightly slimmer 1,500 mAh capacity.
