BoostCase Snap Case for the iPhone 5 review

One of my favorite iPhone 4S accessories was the BoostCase Hybrid, a case and battery combo that was a first of its kind. I literally brought it with me everywhere I went. Luckily, with the jump to the iPhone 5, BoostCase has managed to keep up with Apple’s upgrade cycle and has come with the new BoostCase Snap Case that’s molded specifically for the iPhone 5.

The BoostCase Snap Case is basically the same form fitting case from the previous incarnation. The huge difference now is that instead of a big hole at the back, there are now numerous tiny dots lining-up the whole backside of the Snap Case. The purpose of all of these dots is to accommodate the attachment of various accessories that can piggy-back on the Snap Case. During the iPhone 4S era, there were only two kinds of accessories that could attach to the Snap Case–a battery pack and a wallet. Now, BoostCase is increasing that number and is coming out with a myriad of accessory options for the Snap Case.

The BoostCase Snap Case; thin and light

The Wallet is back, but this time around, Boost Case has prudently trimmed out the lower portion of the wallet that was previously used to cover the bottom part of the iPhone 4S. Now, the Snap Case Wallet is simply a flat design that allows for it to be used, even when detached from the Snap Case. A very smart design decision. The Wallet can accommodate a combination of plastic cards, calling cards and a few folded bills of cash.

If the piggy-back style wallet is not your thing, the BoostCase Snap Case also comes in a package that contains both a hand strap and a kickstand. The hand strap clips to the back of the Snap Case quite easily. It is made of an elastic material similar to a garter. The kickstand, on the other hand, is made up of the same material as the Snap Case, and can prop up the iPhone 5 both horizontally and vertically. Currently, the Wallet, Hand strap and Kickstand are now available in the market with the rest of the BoostCase accessories such as the ruggedized cover and lady purse attachment coming very, very soon. The Battery Backpack for the Snap Case has just arrived in our office and we’re working on the review at this very moment.

Bottomline:

BoostCase has managed to  successfully create a mini ecosystem for their iPhone 5 Snap Case Hybrid. The little holes at the back offer almost a limitless potential as to what kind of accessory can be attached to it. In a market flooded with iPhone cases, BoostCase tried to differentiate themselves by offering a case that’s infinitely expandable and versatile. Still, the BoostCase Snap Case may not be the thinnest or funkiest case in the market, but it may well be the most functional.
