Yep, it’s an end of an era, an era that actually didn’t even last for a good whole year.
HTC will cease bundling their phones with Beats headphones.
HTC product executive Martin Fichter shared their realization from the past couple of months:
An accessory like the headphone doesn’t factor in when someone is buying a smartphone. If they want a Beats headphone, they’ll buy it directly.
Wow! Can’t believe it took them this long to realize that, but hey, better late than never, right?
Not that I’m happy to see the bundled Beats headphones go, but it just doesn’t make sense to ship each and every Beats-branded HTC ‘droid with one.
My advice to HTC – no need to dump the whole Beats headphones game plan! Just tweak it so that it becomes more beneficial for both the consumer and you.
Bundle only your top-of-the-line Beats-souped up offerings with Beats headphones. And don’t bundle it with just any Beats headphones. Ship ‘em with those that scream Beats, not just some Beats-branded run-of-the-mill earphones that can hardly be recognized as Beats.
This’ll make ‘em more enticing to buyers and, at the same time, preserve the exclusivity that the Beats brand is known for.
And as for your mid-level treats, just incorporate ‘em with the Beats tech your working on right now. I’m sure your target market won’t mind the trade-off.
