CD-R King’s low cost “My-Fi”

Hey Howard, I know I backtracked on the Huawei pocket 3G Wi-Fi device. But then I saw this at CD-R King and I just fell in love with it immediately.

It’s the CD-R King 3G Mobile Wireless-N Broadband Router. Yes it’s a portable 3G to Wi-Fi hotspot. With rechargeable battery. Bag-friendly too, although it’ll be irregularly shaped with the USB dongle plugged into it, but it’ll do for people with roomy bags and “bayong” bags.

Price: Just P2,180.

The battery’s not bad. Not wow, but good enough for casual trips: clocked mine at two and a half hours before redlining.

You can charge it using a regular mini USB cable (just make sure it’s a charging cable — apparently not all cables can take the 5V load requirement). Yes, it comes with an AC charger.

But here’s the kicker: while the Huawei pocket Wi-Fi can share only up to five (?) devices, this portable Wi-Fi router can support up to THIRTY devices.

I’ll do a more serious review of this sometime soon, once my brain has settled from my deadlines. See ya, Howard. I’ll see ya when I get my iPad…

@Bernie I know! That would have made this device less bulky. But at its price point, I’m not complaining. For now…

Yes the unit plays nicely with Sun. And Globe and Smart. However, Sun postpaid (which I use) requires special settings which are not preset, so the CD-R King guy tapped them in before unleashing the unit into my greedy hands. Make sure to bring your USB dongle/s when you check out the unit. Just to be safe. :)
