Globe Telecom reveals LTE-powered Tattoo Black, insists you’ll never go back
We’ve been telling you about Globe Telecom’s ongoing drive to completely transform its network. The company doesn’t seem to be slacking off on the consumer-offering front either. What better way to help its subscribers enjoy the fruits of its labor than to introduce a new set of offerings poised to take full advantage of said infrastructure?
A couple of days ago, to great fanfare, Globe Tattoo Nomadic Broadband Business Head Dong Ronquillo, Corporate Communications Head Yoly Crisanto and other Globe head honchos pulled the wraps off the company’s Tattoo Black devices, plans and services. The first device was a USB stick supplied free to subscribers of the new Tattoo Black Plan 1799, and the second a larger and chunkier ‘superstick’ provided with the new Tattoo Black Elite Plan 2499 (and which Plan 1799 subscribers can upgrade to for an extra PhP150/month), which can serve as a Wi-Fi hub for up to five devices. Both run on Globe’s 4G LTE network (which as of this writing is up only in Makati, with 50 sites in Makati expected to be up by the end of October 2012, but expect it to be “progressively” rolled out in other areas soon) and promise “blistering” performance.
A bunch of LTE-powered laptops were on hand for all assembled to try, and we immediately put them through their paces (strangely enough, nearly everyone proceeded to load the ‘Gangnam Style’ video, but anyway…). In the brief time we had with these units, we were able to load several webpages, and we came away rather impressed with how fast everything loaded and played – even 1080p videos.
But don’t take our word for it:
We also managed to sneak a peek at the devices themselves; appearance-wise they’re nothing out of the ordinary, if seemingly somewhat stouter around than the 3G USB dongle and ‘superstick’ Globe already sells.
What else will Tattoo Black subscribers get with these plans? Those who go for Plan 1799 can enjoy discounts at partner establishments as well as nationwide concierge assistance, whereas those who select Plan 2499 get to live higher up the hog – they get a dedicated hotline, a personal relationship manager, priority handling in stores, free tickets to Tattoo events, priority reservation on Globe devices, and concierge assistance round the clock.
We hasten to add that the first Tattoo Black subscribers get to enjoy unlimited browsing – yes, you read that right, browsing sans data caps – until the 31st of January 2013, after which data capping kicks in: 12GB for Plan 1799 and 15GB for Plan 2499.
If you’re interested, you can visit the Globe Telecom Tattoo Black site to learn more or register, or you can make a beeline for your nearest Globe Telecom store beginning October 28.
