No, this isn’t a joke. Google is really giving away free Nexus Q units!
This is, however, only limited to those who already pre-ordered Google’s first media player offering.
Everyone else, meanwhile, will have to wait for Google to open up pre-ordering once again for the Nexus Q as it has indefinitely be delayed.
Here’s the email sent out by Google disclosing the good and bad news as posted on Droid-Life:
We have an important update about your Nexus Q pre-order.
When we announced Nexus Q at Google I/O, we gave away devices to attendees for an early preview. The industrial design and hardware were met with great enthusiasm. We also heard initial feedback from users that they want Nexus Q to do even more than it does today. In response, we have decided to postpone the consumer launch of Nexus Q while we work on making it even better.
To thank you for your early interest, we’d like to extend the Nexus Q preview to our pre-order customers and send you a free device. If you had other items in your order, your credit card will be charged for those items only.
Your Nexus Q will be on its way soon and you will receive a notification and tracking number from Google Play when it ships.
The Nexus Q Team
So the delay is really for good of everyone. Well, everyone except those eager early adopters who weren’t able to get their orders in before Google shut down.
We were fortunate enough to play around with one – thanks again Anne – and I can personally say you guys won’t be missing much by the delay. The Nexus Q is nearly useless here in the Philippines since movies are all Google Play-based, which, if you still didn’t know, isn’t available yet in our neck of the woods. Yes, you can bypass this using a VPN, but come on, not everyone has a VPN.
The decision to announce the Nexus Q, open it up for pre-orders, then delay it may not be a very popular decision, but it’s the right one, in my opinion.
