Google Maps iOS app just waiting approval from Apple, App Store debut imminent?
Missing Google Maps already on your iPhone/iPod touch/iPad?
Well, based on what we’ve been hearing and reading on the ‘net, it appears your’re not the only one. But if what The Guardian‘s reporting is true, it might not be long now before you iOS users out there already rockin’ iOS 6 will be reunited with Google Maps. According to their sources, Google is already hard at work with a Google Maps app to rival the one that gave it the boot. And thought there’s no solid confirmation on its status, Steven Troughton-Smith did sort of confirm it’s already been submitted to the App Store for approval.
I haven’t fully taken Apple’s Maps app for a spin yet, but my initial impression is Google Maps loads way much faster than Maps. WAY faster. But speed aside, what I’m more curious to see is if Maps’ turn-by-turn navigation is accurate, something which Google Maps hasn’t offered since day 1 on iOS and also isn’t available on Android here in the Philippines.
Anyway, for now, iOS 6 users who need their fill of Google Maps can just bookmark maps.google.com and pin it to their homescreen for one tap access. For those who you haven’t taken the big leap yet and feeling very iffy about Maps, I strongly suggest you wait it out until Google Maps officially arrives in the App Store.
That’s it for now. More on this soon.
