Google has updated their Gmail iOS app, and take note, this one’s more than just your typical run-of-the-mill bug fix update. This one intros several new features, one of which I’ve long been waiting for.
First, your sessions no longer expire. Goodbye surprising log outs!
You can now also send an email using an alternate email address with the “Send-as” feature. You do, however, need to configure your alternate email address via Gmail on the web first in order to take advantage of this feature. You can’t configure it within the app itself.
But the best feature here for me is Notification Center support. No more relying on just sounds to know if you’ve got new mail in Gmail. With this latest version of Gmail, you can view a short preview of your new email even if your iOS device is in lockscreen mode. FINALLY!
Those who have the Gmail app already, just update away to get these new treats.
Those who don’t have the Gmail app yet, you guys can get it here. Gmail is free and universal. Meaning, you need only download one version and it’s already optimized for use on both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad.
