Huawei and Globe launch Ascend P6 smartphone and Ascend Mate phablet in Manila

(L-R) Event host Tracy Abad with newly minted Huawei ambassadors Cesca Litton, Patti Grandidge, Aly Borromeo and Ivan Henares

In coordination with launch partner Globe Telecom and helped by its new ambassadors Cesca Litton, Aly Borromeo, Patti Grandidge and Ivan Henares, Huawei launched its Ascend P6 smartphone and Ascend Mate phablet in Manila.

Both units are available right this minute. (Scroll down for plans and pricing and all that jazz.)

We told you about the P6 some days ago – in a nutshell, feature-wise it’s more or less competitive with other middle-upper and upper-range phones out on the market today, but this baby’s one thin phone, just 6.18mm thin (for your reference, the iPhone 5 is rather thicker at 7.6mm) and weighs no more than 120g. It’s really¬†thin, but it’s apparently also got battery life to spare; the Huawei folks insist its 2000mAh battery provides enough juice to last the entire day. Not bad if so.

Another feature that might be of interest, especially in this increasingly selfie-mad world, is the fact that the P6 boasts a 5MP front cam. Enough said.

Here’s a look at the P6 they trotted out for the press earlier.

What’s the damage?

  • Prepaid: Php17,500
  • Postpaid: Php999 monthly at Globe Plan 499 with Php500/month cashout OR Php1,199 monthly at Globe Plan 999 with P200 monthly cashout. (24-month contract for both)

If it matters, the P6 is exclusive to Globe Telecom.

As we reported a while back, this one’s a 6.1-inch ‘pocket cinema phablet’ sporting a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and a massive 4050mAh battery. That said, it’s still appreciably thin (6.5mm)¬†and light (198g).

Want a look at it? Here you go.

OK, how much?

  • Prepaid: PhP12,200 (!)
  • Postpaid: Free at Globe Plan 999; can also be had at Globe Plan 499 with a P200 monthly cashout over a 24-month contract period

Unlike the P6, the Ascend Mate isn’t a Globe exclusive; Globe is just the first telco to carry it.

Huawei and Globe hope you’ll find the Ascend P6 and the Ascend Mate worthy of consideration.

But they’ve come up with another offer to sweeten the pot. Buyers of either the P6 or the Mate can score free tickets to Carly Rae Jepsen’s one-night concert in Manila at the Araneta Coliseum on August 7, 2013, whether with a prepaid pack or with a plan.

Those who sign up for plan subscriptions at Plan 999 and up get two free VIP or Patron seats, whereas Plan 499 and All-Unli subscriptions come with two free Lower or Upper Box seats. Both on a first-come, first-serve basis, so if you want to see Carly in person, get cracking!
