Hybrid Wallet for iPhone 4S review

The BoostCase Hybrid for the iPhone 4S had such an inspired design: a modular two-piece configuration consisting of a Snap-on Case and a sliding battery pack. It was this same principle that went into the creation of the new Wallet Hybrid case for the iPhone 4S.

The Hybrid Wallet, similar to the BoostCase Hybrid, is also a modular two-piece solution. A snap-on case for the iPhone 4S but, instead of a battery pack, it comes with a wallet attachment that rides piggy-back on the snap-on case. The wallet attachment is slim in design, has two card slots and is made out of genuine leather that’s stitched over a plastic base. The quality of the leather is exquisite and, when attached to the snap-on case, it sits pretty flush and looks to fit very well with the overall look of the case. I love how the wallet looks as if it was an integral part of the case and not like an afterthought.

The snap-on case that’s bundled with the Hybrid Wallet is the exact same case as the one that comes with the BoostCase Hybrid. So if you have both the Hybrid Wallet and the BoostCase Hybrid, the battery pack and the wallet attachment are interchangeable. I love how slim the whole Wallet Hybrid package is; it doesn’t add that much bulk and it also has the added bonus of providing added protection at the bottom of my iPhone 4S.

Unfortunately, to make the Hybrid Wallet as slim as it can be, some concessions had to be made. The Hybrid Wallet can only accommodate, at maximum, two plastic cards. There is no slot for putting cash in. And let’s face it, there is no way an iPhone case with only two card slots can replace a real wallet. So for me, the Hybrid Wallet is more of a secondary or back-up wallet.

So here’s how I’ve been using the Hybrid Wallet: I put a few folded paper bills into one card slot and a plastic card on the other slot. In instances where I was going out to meet friends for coffee or jog for an hour or two, I find the Hybrid Wallet to be good enough to store my essentials and leave my real wallet at home.

Bottomline

While the Hybrid Wallet won’t be replacing my full-fledged wallet anytime soon, I still find it useful enough that I will keep it indefinitely attached to my snap-on case. It’s a very slim and well-made wallet attachment. While the slimness of the whole package caused the product to lose some of its usefulness, it’s still a nice accessory to have and an especially attractive purchase to people who already own a BoostCase Hybrid. It’s a shame though that the Hybrid Wallet was released so close to the release window of the new iPhone, which is one major deterrent for some iPhone 4S owners.
