iBattz Mojo Armor for iPhone 4S review

Just when I thought I’ve tried every kind of battery case imaginable, iBattz comes out with the Mojo Armor, a ruggedized battery case that’s custom made for the iPhone 4 and 4S.

Inside the box: micro USB cable, battery slider cradle, plastic face cover (with protective transparent membrane), rubber case and two 1,700 mAh batteries

iBattz is a fairly new player in the smartphone accessory biz. The Mojo Treble key and Mojo Battery Case are their two recent products which have been a hit in the Technoodling office, and from what we’ve heard, are gaining traction in the local retail scene. Their latest product is the iBattz Mojo Armor, and, judging from my experience with it for roughly a week now, iBattz seems to have another winning product on their hands.

Ruggedized cases are something of a special breed due to their inert bulkiness and weight. It’s not a case that one uses everyday, but the degree of protection it offers is worth every ounce it weighs. The only time I break out the Speck Mighty Vault and use it on my iPhone is during those times when my work brings me to areas where the chance of accidentally dropping my phone is a huge possibility (e.g. construction sites). The iBattz Mojo Armor is as huge and heavy as is expected of a tough case, but the added benefit is that the Mojo Armor is equipped with a 1,700 mAh battery which essentially doubles the battery life of the iPhone.

The Mojo Armor is technically comprised of two components: the hard plastic overlay which includes the extra battery slider and the transparent membrane which protects the screen of the iPhone, and the thick rubber bumper cover which surrounds the whole unit with an all encompassing rubber housing. Daunting as it may seem, the insertion and removal of the iPhone 4S into the Mojo Armor is an easy affair. The inner 2 plastic piece (battery slider and front protector) easily snaps into the place, then the rubber cover.

As a tough case, the iBattz Mojo Armor succeeds on many levels. The two layers of protection guarantee that the iPhone will survive any unforeseen drops and bumps that comes its way. The case may not exactly be water proof, but it can withstand water splashes, as the the exposed ports of the iPhone (charging port and earphone plug) are also covered by the exterior rubber cover. Not to worry, if access to the ports is needed, merely flip open the flap that’s covering it.

Covered by flaps that can be easily flipped open are the micro USB charging port, earphone jack and mute toggle switch

The 1,700 mAh battery is able to charge the iPhone to around 90% of its capacity which I find is enough to last me throughout the day of heavy data/call usage. And if ever I need more juice, the Mojo Armor comes with an extra battery which I can swap out with the used one (the Mojo Armor comes with two 1,700 mAh batteries). It should be noted that the battery that comes with the iBattz Mojo Armor is the same battery that’s inside the Galaxy SII, so in the event you or someone you know has an SII, you can swap batteries with him.

It's thick, but it's ruggedized and has a battery to charge your iPhone while on the go!

Bottomline:

With the iBattz Mojo Armor, lugging around a ruggedized case just got a little more incentivised with the addition of the extra battery. I really love all in one solutions, hence my love for battery cases like the BoostCase. The iBattz Mojo Armor is also the cheapest battery case in the market considering that at the price of Php 3,800, you not only get a ruggedized battery case, but also two batteries as well.
