Incipio Silicrylic iPad 2 case with kickstand | Review

You gotta hand it to the people at Incipio. They put together a full protection suite in a box for the iPad 2. Well, almost.

The Incipio Silicrylic is an iPad 2 protection pack that contains:

  • Silicon wrap sleeve to protect the sides and rear
  • Screen protector sheet to protect the front
  • Hard plastic shell for further protection, which includes kickstand

If you’re in the market for a one-shot protection pack for your iPad 2, then the Incipio Silicrylic is an option worth looking into. Well, almost. We got a couple of beefs with it too. But at least it covers all the bases.

Of course the first order of business is to apply the screen protector. This could be tricky if you don’t have an artisan’s bone in your body and your fingers are clumsy clods–in which case it’s best to have your retailer apply the screen protector for you.

Henceforth, you just slip on the silicone wrap and the hard case.

The gray silicone wrap slips snugly around the iPad 2. It’s easy to slip on, and easy to slip off. That’s both good and bad. Good because putting it on is effortless. Bad because, well, its edges can slip off even when you don’t want it to. The silicone is just too supple.

The hard case of the Incipio Silicrylic snaps around the grooves of the silicone wrap, effectively locking both tightly around your iPad 2. I have the white hard case, and it makes the iPad 2 look like a fashion accessory for an Imperial Stormtrooper.

Doesn't it look like a Stormtrooper accessory?

But here’s where the bad comes in: despite the hard case locking everything up, the silicone wrap still manages to slip away from an iPad 2 edge every now and then. No it won’t lead to the case leaving your iPad 2, but it can still be very annoying, especially if you’re quite obsessive about keeping your stuff looking neat.

Problem: the silicone can still slip away from the iPad 2 edge

The other beef I have with the Incipio Silicrylic: the hard case is a dirt magnet. Smudges, grime, and dark matter will latch on to the hard case easy. So unless you’re fastidious with your cleaning habits, expect this to turn grimy quick.

It's a dirt magnet!

On the plus side, you also get a kickstand out of it, although it will only allow for one angle.

The kickstand just has one angle

Other than those gripes, this is a not bad all-in-one casing solution. You get front and back wraparound protection and a kickstand, and you get to look like a Stormtrooper while doing so.
