Juicy Electronics Scented Earphones with Remote and Mic review

Now I’ve seen everything.

A line of scented earphones have just come out and they’re ready to invade your tech lives with their fruity smells – in Cherry, Apple, Banana, Grape and many other scents.

Really, I’m not kidding.

Juicy Electronics have come out with Scented Juice Box Earphones with Remote and Mic, and they’re not kidding either. Cleverly packaged inside what looks like your regular, everyday tetra-brik juice pack, these are droplet-shaped in-ear headphones that come with a long 1.2 meter long cable, and they come ready with a remote and mic incorporated in one of the cable strands near the ear, like many of their contemporaries. What differentiates these earbuds from others is that their cables are scented. Specifically with fruit smells. If you’re the type who likes to listen to his music with a faint fruity smell enveloping you as you listen, then this is the pair of earphones for you.

I came home with their products to review last weekend, and my brother goes, “Ooh, something smells really good. What is that?” I arrived with several of the in-ear juice box earphones, and apparently the fruity smells waft out of their containers. So there I was, a walking smorgasbord of scents, and said, “Nothing. Just some earphones.”

The Juicy in-ear headphones also come with a couple of pairs of extra earbuds in various sizes, just in case you don’t feel comfortable with the pair already on there. It also comes with a decal of their logo in the juice box. The buds, remote/mic and connector themselves come in different colors, depending on the scent (red for Cherry, green for Apple, yellow for Banana and so on), but the scented cables come in shocking white, and they give off a faint, pleasant smell of fruit. I’m reminded of those old fruit-scented erasers we had in grade school. I don’t really know how long the scents would last, but I think it should be there for a while.

But enough of how they smell. How do they sound? They are earphones, after all, no matter what scents they give off.

Well, they sound surprisingly adequate, considering. They provide a great bass line, and come out with a frequency response of about 22kHz, according to the packaging. I kinda believe them; I tried it on different sources, and they all sounded good. Not fantastic, but no slouch either. The packaging says the earphones are “Made From The Finest Handpicked Ingredients” and are “Rich in Bass” and are “Suitable for Aural Consumption”. Hiphop and classical music sound equally at home, and the Juicy headphones give good ear. And the remote and mic function equally well, if a bit plainly.

The long cables can get tangled up a bit though, and the you can lose the extra earbuds easily because there is no carrying case included. But if you’re in the mood for fruit and music, you can’t go far wrong with Juicy Electronics Juice Box Earphones with Remote and Mic.
