Mozilla has recently announced the availability of Firefox 4.0 Beta 7. According to The Mozilla Blog, the latest prerelease adds many new features designed to improve performance when loading and using web sites.
Among the more notable additions is a JavaScript engine incorporating the new JägerMonkey compiler and support for hardware-accelerated graphics using DirectX on Windows and OpenGL on OS X. Mozilla claims a 3x-to-5x performance boost over the previous versions of Firefox when using Web apps and games.
Mozilla has also added support for WebGL, which enables 3D capabilities without the need for plug-ins.
According to tests done by Ars Technica, the latest Firefox beta indeed benefits from the new enhancements, performing favorably against the Google Chrome beta on the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark.
Firefox 4 Beta 7 is available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
