Ladies and geeks, meet the Lenovo A65.
This is Lenovo Mobile’s follow up to their first Android offering, the Lenovo A60. But don’t expect to be wowed by overflowing new features because the A65 this is pretty much a minor upgrade to the A60.
Its design, as you’ll notice, is a near carbon copy of its predecessor, and with the exception of a faster processor under the hood — 800MHz, to be exact — it’s pretty much identical in the specs department too.
But if there’s one thing that really seals the deal for the dual SIM Lenovo A65, it has be its price. Not only is it better (albeit by a very slim margin) than the A60, it’s cheaper too!
SRP of the Lenovo A65 is just Php5,499, bundled with a free SMART Bro SIM complete with Php100 load valid for 30 days.
Not your cup of tea? Don’t worry, Lenovo Mobile’s not done yet for this year. In fact, they’ve got ICS ‘droids in the wings just waiting to be let loose in the country. When? We don’t know, but we’ll give you the heads up once we catch sight of ‘em.

Lenovo takes aim at smartphone market
According to research company GfK Asia, smartphones currently make up nearly 30% of all mobile phones purchased in the Philippines and have been steadily rising over the past few years. Its recent report cited that in the first quarter of 2012, total sales of smartphones totaled over US$225 million dollars.
Leveraging on its reputable brand as among the global leaders in laptop and personal computers, Lenovo Mobile is set to take advantage of this opportunity and aims to be a key player in today’s smartphone market by launching new Android-based devices that promises superior product quality balanced with a modern and functional design.
Beyond the usual focus on features and products’ specifications, Lenovo intends to differentiate itself by highlighting the relevance and utility of the smartphone that gives consumers an edge in life. Whether it be about running one’s own business, going the extra mile to earn a promotion, or simply being able to go about one’s day with more efficiency and ease, a Lenovo Mobile smartphone provides applications one can download to help get ahead or move up in life.
With the Philippine smartphone market growing at a staggering 402%, ahead of many markets in Southeast Asia, Lenovo Mobile’s entry comes at an opportune time.
John Rojo, Business Unit Head of Open Communications, the exclusive distributor of Lenovo Mobile said: “We believe Lenovo Mobile is perfectly situated to take advantage of the explosive growth in the smartphone business because we offer best-in-value devices to our target consumers. We won’t be competing in the segment of offering high-priced devices targeting early adopters. Instead, our focus is on the greater majority of consumers who also desire and deserve a smartphone device that is both affordable and reliable in order to assist them in running the daily business of their lives.”
This month, Lenovo has unveiled A65 its new Android-based smartphone. The new model comes at the heels of the brand’s first Android phone, the A60. The A65 is the a dual-SIM phone that runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with a 800 Mhz processor, making it the practical choice for first time smartphone users that don’t want to sacrifice quality. And at a price of P5,499, A65 offers the perfect balance between quality function and affordability.
“We also partnered with Smart to bundle A65 with a pre-paid SMART Broadband data plan because a smartphone is most useful with a data or Internet plan. This way, consumers get to feel the true Android experience immediately after they walk out of the store even if they don’t have a post-paid plan from one of the mobile operators,” said Mr. Rojo.
Mr. Rojo also revealed that at least two more Android phones are set to enter the market before the end of 2012 namely the P700 and the S880 which runs on the higher Android platform called Ice Cream Sandwich.
“Our aim is to provide not just entry level phones such as the A65, but also smartphones that target professionals (P700) to leverage on the strength of Lenovo in the enterprise market, as well as stylish and statement phones that would further enhance the smartphone experience of our target users, but always at competitive prices in every cost category.”
Although the smartphone market is expected to grow by leaps and bounds, Lenovo has not been remiss in catering to those that are not quite ready to make the shift. True to form of being a benefit-centric brand, Lenovo has an existing line of feature phones fit for every lifestyle: basic phones, a gaming phone, music phone, a stylish phone and qwerty phones; all of which still let Filipinos stay in touch and up to date.
It is currently running a campaign called Two for the Price of Wow where the feature phones are offered at discounted prices in time for the coming school year.
As the mobile phone market continues to develop; and with giving an edge to the Filipino in mind, one can expect Lenovo to be a key player and game changer in the months and years to come.
