Apple just announced it’s latest version of the Mac OS. Dubbed “Mountain Lion”, it incorporates a lot of the stuff that we’ve seen on iOS. Furthur strengthening the link between the two operating systemts.
Some notable features of the OS 10.8 are Messages, Reminders, Notes, Air Play Mirroring, Gate Keeper plus a system level integration for social networking apps such as Twitter.
I’m excited about Messages personally. It replaces iChat on the Mac. It will allow you to send and receive messages from an iOS device. Not only that it will also sync the message history so you get to view your conversations across devices. Start a conversation on the Mac and continue with it when you’re on the go. You can get a preview of Messages now. It’s available as a beta download.
Reminders and Notes are familiar apps from iOS. But don’t get fooled, Apple didn’t just grab it from iOS. They re-worked it to work well on the Mac.
Gate Keeper allows provides a level of security for preventing the installation of malware and the likes. It gives you security options on what to run on your Mac.
Air Play Mirroring is also big. Now you can stream your desktop to your TV without the hassle of cables.
So checkout the the new Mountain Lion features on this page. I for one can’t wait till it becomes available. Like Lion it’s a Mac App Store only download.
