If you’re the type who likes to personalize your Sony Xperia ‘droid with custom ROMs, then here’s great news for you. You can now do so without fear ‘cause you can easily revert back to the stock firmware of your Xperia… all thanks to Emma, the official Flash Tool For Sony Xperia Android devices.
Once you’ve got this running on your PC – yep, it’s Windows only – simply run Emma, hook up your switched-off Xperia to your PC while holding down the flash key, and it’ll fetch and install the latest stock firmware for your Xperia ‘droid.
Do note, though, that this is still a beta release. And currently, Emma only supports three Xperia devices – the Xperia S, Xerpia arc S and the Xperia arc.
But Sony Mobile did promise to add more devices to the uber-short list in the coming months. So other Xperia users have something to look forward to.
Oh, and yeah, this also only works with unlocked Xperia ‘droids and those with the boot loader unlocked too. To know how you can unlock your Xperia’s boot loader (or if it’s even possible), head on over here.
Now, as to how to install and where to download Emma, get it here. To install, just unzip the contents to a folder on your PC, run the Emma.exe from the folder, and – this one’s important, guys – copy the Customization.ini file to the installation folder. By default, the installation folder is usually found at C:\Program Files\Sony Mobile\Emma.
