Yep, YouTube’s bidding iOS goodbye. Well, actually, it’s more like see you later, ‘cause it’s reportedly not a permanent departure.
According to The Verge, the standard YouTube app is no longer found in the latest iOS 6 beta release. Why? ‘Cause Apple‘s license to use the YouTube app on iOS has ended, that’s why.
Here’s the official statement from Apple regarding YouTube going MIA on iOS:
Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.
But don’t worry, it’ll be back. YouTube sent word assuring everyone their commitment for “the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users.â€
Does that mean it’ll be back as a default iOS app or a YouTube app you can download from the App Store?
Well, according to the same report, it’ll be the latter, though it’s still not clear if it’ll be available at the App Store once iOS 6 goes live.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure we’ll hear more about this interesting development as we draw close to D-day for iOS 6.
But let’s hear from you guys, first – is it a yay or nay for YouTube no longer coming standard on iOS?
