Review: UK Pro TT10 Travel Trunk for the Soundmatters FoxL

Longtime Technoodling readers may know of my devotion to the soundmatters foxL portable Bluetooth speaker system.  Though smaller than a Toblerone bar, the foxL is hefty, solid and surprisingly loud and balanced, with seemingly physics-defying bass. Yet it fits easily in any gadget bag and makes the perfect “hotel room” speaker for travel.

Apparently, the founder of a company called Underwater Kinetics (UK) loves his foxL just as much as I do, if not more. UK is justifiably famous for their waterproof protective travel cases, built to protect expensive and delicate gear in demanding applications like scuba, outdoor exploration and even cinema. And now UK has gone an extra step and built a special case called the TP110 specially for the foxL, with the soundmatters logo proudly emblazoned on the lid.

This beefy little trunk (7.9″ L x 3.9″ W x 3.2″ exterior dimensions) is just as hefty and overbuilt as the speaker it’s designed to protect. It looks like it will survive getting dunked in the sea, run over, or machine gunned without breaking a sweat. It’s designed to hold not just the foxL but all of its accessories (AC adapter, cable, etc) and I found that it also held a Samsung Galaxy S III alongside the speaker without any difficulty.

Name me any other portable electronics case at this price point that has as mechanical pressure relief valve for easy opening after an altitude or temperature change! Or a sealed O-ring that makes the case not just airproof and moistureproof but waterproof submersion up to 5 meters! Awesome protection.  I wonder if I can use this to also keep my potato chips fresh in between snack sessions?

Conclusion: not a must buy by any means, but great to have if you love your foxL and want to splurge.

Philippine SRP for the case is P1,950. The FoxL speaker costs P9,950 for the platinum version and P8,950 for the standard version. Both are available at Digital Hub, Beyond the Box, and Digital Walker.

Pros:

  • one of the most solidly built little gadget cases on the market
  • airproof, moistureproof, and waterproof to 5 meters
  • spacious enough to accomodate the foxL’s accessories or even your phone

Cons:

  • Pricey for a case, but the build quality is worth it
  • The solidly locking latch requires a bit of confidence and force to pop open
  • Adds bulk and heft to the foxL when travelling
