RIM begins accepting Android app submissions for PlayBook 2.0

If there’s one thing that could make the BlackBerry PlayBook a winner, it’s Android app support. They talked about this upcoming feature when they first launched the PlayBook.

But sadly, it remained just that – just talk.

That’s about to change, though, this 2012 with the roll out of BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps that’s bundled in BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0. Its name is pretty much a dead giveaway as to what it does. This’ll allow Android apps to run on the PlayBook.

And a recent post over on the BlackBerry blog confirms that they’re on track for its release this month. We don’t know yet when exactly thisFebruary, but they did give Android app developers a deadline – February 6 – for those who wish to have their apps displayed in the BlackBerry App World once PlayBook 2.0 becomes available to the public.

This should be great news for PlayBook users green with envy with all the apps their Android-dependent friends are enjoying.

And if everything goes according to plan, this might even give the BlackBerry PlayBook a new lease on life.
