Sony-Ericsson no more: Sony calls it quits with Ericsson

The title I guess already says it all. It’s goodbye Ericsson, and hello Sony. Sony is buying out Ericsson to take full control of Sony Ericsson. The game changing deal is expected to be closed and finalized in January 2012 pending regulatory approvals.

With Ericsson soon to be completely out of the picture, what can we expect from the struggling company to down the road?

Well, for starters, no more features phones, like the Walkman series. None other than Sony president and CEO Sir Howard Stringer confirmed this as reported by Pocket-lint:

We’re phasing out feature phones

It’ll be smartphones from here on end.

So the next question is, will it be Android all the way? Possibly, but when asked whether or not they’re inclined to buy webOS, all he had to say was “Never say never.â€

And so it is.
