Beating everyone to the punch, Sony has just unveiled the very first Windows 8-powered device in the Philippines – the Sony VAIO Duo 11.
It’s a QWERTY-packin’ tablet slider, very much akin to Asus Eee Pad Slider. But don’t worry, that’s the only thing it’s got in common with Asus’ Android treat.
This one’s sports a bigger display, an 11-inch OptiContrast 1920×1080 resolution display, runs on 3rd gen Intel Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000 for – what else – graphics, a 128GB SSD for storage, and the obvious difference, Windows 8 as its OS. So yeah, this one’s actually more touchscreen laptop than tablet. A 2-megapixel HD-capable front and rear facing cameras, NFC, Ethernet port, VGA and HDMI out round-up the rest of the specs of the VAIO Duo 11.
Now, on the most important part – pricing and availability.
The Sony VAIO Duo 11 is expected to hit stores on October 26, the big day when Windows 8 will also become available to the public, with a retail price of – ready? – Php69,999. Ouch!
With Sony taking the lead, I wonder who’s next to unveil their Windows 8 offering, but more importantly, are there more affordable Windows 8 treats in the pipeline?
