Happy weekend, guys! And we’ve got news to make it even happier for you proud Xperia S owners out there.

Sony Mobile has announced they’ve begun shipping Ice Cream Sandwich to Xperia S handsets globally. And unlike with the Sony Ericsson Xperia units of last year, you can freely update yours over-the-air.

So what’s new here to get excited about?

Here’s a rundown of the new treats included in this Android 4.0 updated as posted on Sony Mobile’s site:

• An all-new Sony media experience with the new WALKMAN application, the Album application and the Movies application
• Lock screen with improved functionality
• Resizable widgets (improved personalisation)
• Improved control of your mobile data consumption
• Recent Apps button for a clear overview of your applications

Just note the keyword here is begun. Meaning, it might not be out yet locally since availability will vary from market to market.

So in case you still haven’t gotten the glorious notification of the ICS update being available for your Xperia S, then just treat this as an FYI that it’s now out the door and on its way already.
