Speck PixelSkin HD Wrap for iPad 3 review

Popular case manufacturer Speck USA has never been one to shy away from using bright colors. Eschewing from the typical black and white tones, the latest line of Speck’s PixelSkin HD Wrap case for the New iPad shows the manufacturer’s more colorful and playful side.

Speck PixelSkin HD Wrap is available in 5 colors: Pink, Blue, Violet, Red and Black

Speck has literally struck gold with the PixelSkin series. The iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad versions of the PixelSkin cases have sold in the hundred of thousands and have garnered accolades from numerous websites. The PixelSkin HD Wrap for the New iPad serves as an evolution to the PixelSkin series as it not only carries the features that has made it popular, but also adds a few improvements as well.

The main reason why people bother with a case for their mobile device is to protect their investment. It honestly sometimes seems like a crime to hide an otherwise, sexy and gorgeous looking gadget under a layer of protection. But if the case looks good enough, then the trouble of having to use it becomes more palatable. The PixelSkin HD Wrap, with its brightly colored hues, looks to be an absolutely joy to use. The bricked/grid design of the case adds a sort of charm to the whole shebang. This is absolutely one gorgeous looking case! The funny thing is, the raised brick design also serves another purpose other than looking good, it actually makes the case more “grippy” and non-slippery. It’s actually feels better to handle an iPad that’s inside the PixelSkin HD Wrap rather than playing with it naked.

The PixelSkin HD Wrap is a form fitting case that has a built-in flip cover. The attached flip cover works similarly to that of the original Apple flip cover accessory; it opens horizontally to the left, has a built-in magnet to facilitate the sleep/wake function of the iPad and can be folded to create a triangular base to act as sort of an stand for the iPad. Technically, anything the original Apple flip cover accessory can do, the PixelSkin HD Wrap can do as well.

Speck claims that the PixelSkin HD Wrap is made up of the highest quality TPU material that can be found. I tend to believe that claim because in my testings, the PixelSkin HD Wrap was quite stiff and hard, yet bouncy enough to offer a substantial amount of impact protection. And before you ask, yes, I have dropped my New iPad on the floor while it was inside the case. Thank goodness Speck wasn’t kidding around when they created this thing. As with the quality of TPU, this case is absolutely smooth to the touch. Normal silicon cases can be rubbery and a bit sticky on the surface, which causes it to emit a not so savory aroma. This is not the case with TPU which Speck is so fond in using.

Bottomline:

The Speck PixelSkin HD Wrap is definitely one of the better looking New iPad cases out in the market; A colorful and smart design choice makes it not only attractive, but very functional as well. Definitely a good buy at Php 1,950.
