Why buy when you can transform any surface into a keyboard? Impossible? Possible! And it’s all thanks to an app. An APP!!!
Swiss designer Florian Kräutli developed the ingenious app called Vibrative Virtual Keyboard, which, as its name suggests, allows you to create a virtual keyboard on most surfaces, proving that with today’s tech and a little thinking out of the box, you can do almost anything.
Through the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer, the app measures the vibrations (hence the Vibrative in its name) resulting from your tap to determine which letter you’re typing. Of course, to be able to do this, you do need to calibrate the app first to carefully map out the virtual keyboard on the surface that you’re typing on. But once you’re done with that, you can then enjoy typing away sans the physical clunky QWERTY keypad.
Here’s a short demo vid of how it works:
Admittedly, it’s a little rough on the edges, but you can’t deny that it’s got potential or, at the very least, proves that it can actually be done.
That’s as good as it gets for now, though. It’s still unclear whether or not this will find its way to the official App Store or at Cydia (more like the latter). IBut count us in as one of those interested in seeing this go public sometime soon.
